Support for webp compressed mbtiles would improve sync times and success rates for our users, reduce the strain on plan storage space, and speed up our automations.
Using webp compression in our drone imagery workflows creates mbtiles files that are 1/3 the size of those using PNG compression, while retaining the alpha channel (unlike jpg).
MBTILES compressed with webp work (display, render, whatever) as expected in the Fulcrum web interface, but do not render in the mobile app on either mobile platform. Fulcrum support advised this scheme is not supported on either mobile platform.
WEBP support was added to the mbtiles spec at 1.3 in 2018 (https://github.com/mapbox/mbtiles-spec/blob/master/1.3/spec.md), and to gdal at 3.8 in 2023.
Please consider bumping libraries to unlock this efficiency.
