I know that code already exists for measuring line data straight or bending, as in the Geometry of the record. Maybe you have since discovered that as this post is older, but if not then you only need to mark two points in the record to make a straight line and use this data event.

It could also be that maybe you want a tool external of the records in the mapping view...

As for two individual points outside of the geometry of a record, if you are not creating a straight line in the Geometry of the record, location data, then it is my understanding that two GPS coordinates could be used. I keep thinking of Algebra I and graphs, but I think it could be much easier than that as someone mentioned using the Pythagorean theorem. In theory, I think you'd set up a calculation that measures the distance between two latitudes and convert it to your preferred measurement. Then you would calculate the distance between two longitudes and convert the measurement to again your preferred measurement, miles/ft or kilometers. Then use the theorem like those two measurements are 'a' and 'b'. I would presume 'c' is the distance. Again this is inside the record though and not as a map feature. Until I sat down and made the calculation or data event, I couldn't be 100% on this method, but wanted to throw that out there for you or others in this post who might find it useful. Hi Mike Adams, thank you for this request. It's an idea we are already considering, so it's great to hear users asking for this.

I'm not sure if your request is specific to mobile or web. If web, there is something you could use as a workaround. You could enable Advanced Geometry on the form and draw a line between the record and the land mark. The tool tip will display the length while editing. If you complete the line, you'll be able to see the length of the line in the record's metadata.
